At the Shrine Church of Ss Peter, Paul and Philomena in New Brighton, over the next two days (3rd and 4th March) a Forty Hours Devotion (also called Quarant' Ore or Quarantore) will take place.
If you are local and area able do go across and spend some time in prayer in the peaceful surroundings of the Dome of Home. Vigil watchers have stepped forward for many of 30 minute segments of the two days but there are still spaces to fill on Monday. Of course, you are welcome to go and pray before the Lord, truly present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar at any time between 10am and 8pm.
In the Bible the number 40 is associated with a sacred period of time:
- the rain at the time of the flood of Noah lasted 40 days and nights,
- the Hebrews wandered in the desert for 40 years on the way to the Promised Land., and
- Jesus fasted for 40 days before beginning his public ministry.
