The feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, Princes of the Church, awakens in our souls a greater love for the Church and for our Holy Father the Pope.

The liturgy today gives the place of honor to St. Peter, the head of the Apostles; tomorrow it will speak to us of St. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles. Thus it presents to us those who have established the Church, not only by their labors, but even by their blood. The Gospel (Mt 16:13-19) recalls the scene at Caesarea, where Jesus, for the first time, proclaimed Peter as the foundation stone of the Church: “I say that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church,” words which have had a magnificent repercussion down through the centuries, and which, even today, bear witness to the primacy of Peter and his successors over the whole of Christianity–not over a number of small churches, but over one great, unique Church, the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, and Roman Church. One only Church, whose sole Founder and Head is Christ, who chose Peter to represent Him. “Where Peter is, there is the Church” (St. Ambrose). This means that wherever the Pope, Peter’s successor, is, there the Church is. Rightly, then, should we consider the [Solemnity] of St. Peter as the Feast of the Church, the Feast of our Holy Father the Pope, and one which should awaken in every Christian soul a profound sense of belonging to the Church and of devotion to the Sovereign Pontiff. At the moment of her death, St. Teresa of Jesus repeated: “I am a daughter of the Church!” After having labored so much for God and souls, this was the only title that made her sure of the divine mercy. To be a child of the Church! This is our title to salvation, this is our glory, after that of being a child of God. Or rather, not after, but together with, for, as the Fathers of the Church say, “He cannot have God for Father who does not have the Church for Mother” (St. Cyprian). He is not a true Catholic who does not feel the joy of being a child of the Church, whose heart does not vibrate for the Church and for the Vicar of Christ upon earth, who is not ready to renounce his own personal views in order to “sentire cum Ecclesia,” to think with the Church, always and in all things.

The Mass this Sunday [IV after Pentecost] reflects the call of St. Peter as a fisher of men.

The Introit expresses our confidence in God to overcome enemies that oppose us. The Collect is a prayer that the course of the world may be ordered by the Lord and “joyfully serve Thee to quiet devotion.”

In the Epistle we ask for “deliverance” from corruption into the “liberty” enjoyed by a child of God.

The Gradual continues the theme of asking for help from God lest the “Gentiles” ridicule our religion.

The Gospel teaches that Christ is the great Fisher of Men who relies upon the Apostles, priests and Bishops, for success. We are the fish drawn out of the water by the teaching of Christ from the sea of the world. In the Offertory we ask Jesus to “enlighten my eyes” and in the Secret entreat Him to “draw our rebellious wills” to Him. The Communion reflects the sentiment that the Lord is my “firmament...and ...refuge,” while the Postcommunion tells us that the Mass and Holy Sacrament of the Altar will “purify” our hearts and protect us.

Today, although not commemorated in the Mass is the Feast Day of St. Aloysius Gonzaga C., one of the Patrons of Catholic youth. A nobleman, the Saint gave up his right of inheritance to enter the Society of Jesus. He died on 21 June 1591, during an epidemic, while ministering to the sick.

The Sacred Heart for the world, the world for the Sacred Heart was the theme of Friday’s Feast.

This Sunday, the Mass illustrates the mutual search between His Divine Heart and our heart. The Introit voices the sinner’s sense of being “alone” due to his inner struggles, usually beyond all human aid. The Prayer, a synopsis of Christian life, recognizes the right use of “the good things of this life” and asks God in His Mercy to “guide” us against their abuse. This life, therefore, becomes a warfare against the anti-Christ (Epistle), but “humbled” by afflictions, nevertheless be “strong in faith” since ultimate victory is “in Christ Jesus.” Who of us could ever doubt the Love of the Sacred Heart after reading the Gospel? Who of us would refrain from doing “penance” to make His “find” complete? Who of us on earth would not add to His joy in Heaven (Communion) by leading some soul back to the Sacred Heart?

Prior to 1960 the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus had an octave and was commemorated in the Mass for the edification of those unable to go to Mass on the feast day. At the election of the priest two II cl. Votive Masses of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, with commemoration of the Sunday, are permitted in each church or chapel in accordance with the 1962 rubrics of the Roman Missal.

Mass for the III Sunday after Pentecost takes place at St Francis of Assisi, Llay at 12.30pm on Sunday 14 June 2015.

PART-TIME OFFICE ASSISTANT

We are looking to appoint a part-time Office Assistant. Based in our central London office in Holborn, the successful candidate will be responsible for the administrative work of the LMS. 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Office administration - general correspondence, answering telephone calls, post and emails.
• Membership administration - membership applications and renewals, data entry, data analysis, data export (print mail-merges and email).
• Local representatives – working with our nationwide network of volunteer representatives, he/she will produce the Mass Listings for inclusion in Mass of Ages and posted on website.
• Mail-order - responsible for the administration of the LMS’s on-line shopping.
• Information administration - compiling information pertaining to the Charity, including research and document publication and distribution.
• Volunteer administration – responsible for overseeing office work undertaken by volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS

• An in depth knowledge of Traditional Catholicism.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Excellent multi-tasking skills.
• Possess the ability to prioritise work according to deadlines and work under pressure. 
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and in a timely manner.
• IT Proficient - Microsoft Windows & software, Google suite and, ideally, Drupal (CMS). 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

21 hours per week, on a flexible working pattern, with the possibility of additional hours at certain times of the year. Occasional Saturday and evening work.
