At Liverpool:

High Mass at Portsmouth Cathedral

Rt Rev Philip Egan, Bishop of Portsmouth, presided from the throne at a High Mass in the Extraordinary Form, organised by the Latin Mass Society, at Portsmouth Cathedral on Sunday, 27th October.

The Traditional High Mass was the first at the cathedral for four years and joins the weekly Sunday morning Low Mass that has begun at Portsmouth’s mother church in recent weeks. Despite warnings of dire weather conditions, the Mass was well attended!

The Feast of Christ the King at Holywell

This weekend I had great pleasure in meeting Father Edmund Montgomery, a recently ordained priest in the neighbouring Diocese of Shrewsbury.

Father Montgomery celebrated Holy Mass at St Winefride's this morning on the Feast of Christ the King.

I counted 30 assisting at this Missa Cantata, all of whom then received Father's blessing as a newly ordained priest and with it a plenary indulgence (under the usual conditions of course).

The Syro-Malabar Rite was celebrated immediately after the 'forma antiquior' Mass, meaning that Mass had been celebrated at Holywell using three different rites in the course of the morning! Many of the pilgrims attending the later Mass also queued prayerfully to receive Father's blessing.

The LMS in Wrexham are grateful to Fr. Montgomery for coming across the border - we pray that we will see you again soon!

October Mass at Holywell

23/10/2013

This Sunday (27th October), Father Edmund Montgomery, a recently ordained priest of the Diocese of Shrewsbury will celebrate '4th Sunday' Mass at St Winefride's, Holywell.

Originally this was to be a Low Mass but it will now be celebrated as a Missa Cantata for the feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. May I re-iterate the usual call for your support and generosity, especially given the enthusiasm shown by Father Montgomery who is coming from some distance.

Although only recently ordained, Father Edmund has already celebrated Mass using the 1962 Missal of Blessed John XXIII at St Vincent's, Altrincham and at St Peter, Paul and Philomena, New Brighton.

At the end of Mass, Father Montgomery will impart his blessing as a new priest to individuals, who under the usual conditions will receive a plenary indulgence.

Pray for him and his priestly vocation.

I am also obliged to Fr. Anil, Parish Priest at St. Winefride’s for once again making the church available to the Society.

Traditional Liturgy Retreat at Pantasaph

Over the past weekend Canon Montjean, assisted by Deacon Altiere both of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest led an uplifting retreat entitled "The Theology and Spirituality of the Traditional Mass" at the Franciscan Retreat Centre in Pantasaph, North Wales.

Yours truly was blessed with being able to attend along with a number of other pilgrims from places across the UK including London, Birmingham and Bournemouth - the Wrexham membership was well represented with 4 pilgrims making the journey to this prayerful venue.

Five instructions spread over Friday evening and the weekend were accompanied by Daily Low Mass, Vespers, Compline, the Rosary and Stations of the Cross.

This was a weekend not to have been missed and I hope that Canon considers another at some stage in the future. Canon himself deserves special credit for the additional effort he put in to say Mass at Pantasaph on Sunday at 7am, followed by Penwortham, Preston at 9am and finally back down the M6 for the 11.30am Mass at New Brighton.

I am indebted to Hariett Tait and Johnny Stanley for providing lots of photographs, a few of which I share with you below.

Traditional Catholicism is alive and kicking .... and also walking!

The LMS pilgrimage from Ely to Walsingham in August was a huge success. Here is a short documentary about the event made by LMS General Manager Mike Lord:

Omnipotens sempiterne Deus, qui facis mirabilia magna solus: praetende super famulos tuos, et super congregationes illis commissas, spiritum gratiae salutaris; et, ut in veritate tibi complaceant, perpetuum eis rorem tuae benedictionis infunde.
