Today is the feast of St Winefride, well at least it is in Menevia and Wrexham (where the feast is of the 3rd class) and Shrewsbury (where it is of the 2nd Class). Those frequent visitors to this blog will be aware that the LMS has an annual pilgrimage Mass at Holywell with devotions at the Shrine of St Winefride on the first Sunday in July. The collect from the Mass proper to her feast reads... Amen. O almighty, eternal God, who didst bestow on blessed Winefride the reward of virginity; grant us, we beseech Thee, by her intercession to reject the alluring pleasures of the world, and to obtain with her a throne in everlasting glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen. More on St Winefride can be read here. |
